Our favorite things to do around Alderbrook, Hood Canal and the Olympic Peninsula. Hours were checked in November 2026 and change with the seasons, so call or check before you go.
Golf on the hill above Hood Canal, an easy walk from the house. Book tee times at 360-898-2560.
A spa and a marina on the water, a few minutes down the hill. See Eat and drink for the restaurant and lounge.
Two forest trails maintained by the resort. The Huckleberry Hillclimb is a 1.1-mile loop (about an hour down and back up, 460 feet of elevation); the Licorice Fern Loop is the other. Parts are steep and slippery when wet.
Near the house and around Union.

Oysters with outdoor seating, plus a farm store, in Lilliwaup, about 40 minutes north. Book the Saloon ahead on Tock.
Hours: Saloon Fri–Sun 11 am–4 pm in winter (Nov–Apr), longer in summer. Farm store daily 9:30 am–6 pm; closed Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Beach, swimming and picnics on Hood Canal, close by.
Hours: Day use 8 am–dusk in winter, 6:30 am–dusk in summer.
Old-growth forest along the North Fork Skokomish River, about 50 minutes away. Since the 2025 Bear Gulch fire, the ranger station, campground and Staircase Rapids Loop are open but other trails are still closed. The gravel road can close for snow.

Classic drive-in movies near Bremerton (360-698-6030).
Hours: Closed for the 2026 season; reopens in spring 2027. Usually weekends in spring and fall and nightly in summer.
A small casino in Skokomish with slot machines and The Drift restaurant (all ages until 10 pm).
Hours: Sun–Thu 10 am–1 am; Fri–Sat 10 am–2 am. Food daily from 11 am.
A larger casino in Kamilche with table games, poker and bingo, plus several restaurants.
Hours: Casino Sun–Thu 8 am–3 am; Fri–Sat 8 am–4 am. Check the website for restaurant hours.
Bremerton (about 50 minutes from the house) or Southworth (about 55 minutes). Arrive at least 15 minutes early; summer weekend sailings fill up.
